JENNIFER BARR, CPM
Boulder Home Birth Midwife
As your homebirth midwife, I believe labor works best when undisturbed.
My role as your midwife is to honor the uniqueness of your experience while offering evidence based care.
Creating safety, trust and warmth in your birthing space is paramount to supporting the natural birth you wish to experience.
Helping you thrive in pregnancy.
Jennifer strives to build a groundwork for an ease filled labor during the prenatal appointments by bringing a grounding and un-rushed attitude. It is important to have plenty of time to have all of your questions answered and concerns addressed.
Throughout the prenatal course, and with the help of regular craniosacral sessions, we will build the muscle of a slow-paced and regulated nervous system, which supports the labor, the postpartum and the parenting beyond.
Labor is best when undisturbed.
To allow things to progress with as few disturbances as possible will support the labor to proceed organically. This philosophy of physiologic birth, also called biodynamic birth, speaks to a desire for a calm, quiet, dark environment where a woman and her family will feel safe and supported.
Laboring in warm water can be a wonderful tool for helping to manage the intensity of labor. I lend my clients a birth tub to use in labor or at the moment of birth if they so choose.
Babies are aware.
Babies are sentient and aware when they are born and the process of birth and becoming an air-breather is a tremendous experience for any baby. We strive to interact with baby in a respectful and gentle manner, whether in the newborn exam, resolving a shoulder dystocia or weighing your wee one. We take into account the baby’s experience and strive to treat them as the aware wee humans that they are.
Supporting Connection through Craniosacral Therapy.
Supporting connections - with your partner and baby, as well as with the birth team - helps to create a resonant field. A resonant or coherent field can be further supported with craniosacral therapy as well as verbal resonance exercises during prenatal appointments. Through growing awareness of the nervous system, including resourced and activated states, one can better settle into being present in the moment and connected to the people around them.
