Boulder Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy specializing in Pregnant People and wee ones. (I also work with little people & grown ones!)

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle bodywork designed to support the body to heal from the inside out.

Through gentle touch, the body is quietly invited to reconnect to its own inherent treatment plan and original design oriented to health.

For my midwifery clients, I offer three sessions during the prenatal period and three during the postpartum time included in your care.

I also offer sessions to babies and all people. I do sessions at my office as well as in-home during the first few weeks after birth.

Sessions last between 45-90 minutes and cost $110. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

What happens in a craniosacral therapy session?

During a session we always begin with orienting to the nervous system and inviting it to down-regulate.

Most of us spend much of each day in a rather accelerated pace both externally and internally. Thus, the first step is to see if the system would like to slow down and come out of an activated autonomic nervous system state. We think of that as fight-flight-freeze but it also includes states such as alert, orienting/hyper-vigilant, over-engaged or under-engaged.

Once we feel safe enough to let down, our nervous system can settle.

Why use craniosacral in pregnancy and postpartum?

This is particularly important during pregnancy and in the postpartum time because in this slower nervous system pacing is where bonding can happen and where we can feel a deep connection with our partners and with the baby. In the down-regulated pace is also where labor can unfold most smoothly.

After this settling-in process occurs, and this may take many sessions or just a portion of a session, then the session can address other issues that arise. I support the tissues to express and then release or unwind so the whole body finds equilibrium.

How craniosacral therapy sessions can help:

In my 17 years of supporting clients with craniosacral therapy, I have seen so many ways the benefits can be experienced. These have included:

  • Physical and emotional trauma from accidents, surgery, assault
  • Stress from systemic oppression
  • Difficult birth for baby or birthing parent
  • Feeding challenges, tongue or lip restrictions before and after release
  • TMJ
  • Anxiety
  • Belly birth or cesarean birth, forceps birth, vacuum birth

... to name a few!

Holding space during labor is an important part of what midwives do. In addition to holding space, I bring a therapeutic touch as I support my clients during the laboring process.

Craniosacral therapy for babies can be the perfect, gentle support to help them to unwind the impacts of their gestational time and birth. Each session with a wee one is adjusted to meet them where they are at.

Craniosacral Therapy in the early postpartum time is often done in the home, and often in bed where the parent-baby dyad should be in the first week or longer. I work on parent and baby at the same time with the belief that working on one is working on the other as they are still one inseparable whole.

One of the intentions I hold in providing craniosacral support is to aid in the feeling of connection to self as well as connection to other (parent, baby, partner) as well as connection to the multitude of ambient potency that is in all things.

“The forces that generate healing are the same forces that made the body at its beginning, and they are always present within the system. The practitioner’s role is to support the natural emergence of the ordering principle from within the system.“
